Rock Climbing Knots You Need to Know About

Rock climbing is a dangerous activity that requires one to be fully armed with the necessary safety tools to avoid falls, scratches and cuts. One major item that should never miss from your kit is a rope. The knots that are made on the rope are what will help you in making an easy climb.

The rock climbing knots that are commonly used by many climbers are as highlighted below. To begin with, there is the Alpine butterfly which is considered to the best and most ideal. Single loops are made in the middle of the rope to make the climbing easier, especially when you cannot access the ends. The bowline knot is the most superior among all the rest and a good rock climber must know how to make it.

Figure eight knot is easy to remember and make and in addition it has a higher percentage of efficiency than the bowline one. Bunny ears or the double eight one is also considered safe. It is made as a way of balancing between the weight on the anchors. Double Alpine butterfly has two loops in the middle of the rope. It is made in the same way as the Alpine, just that one makes two loops instead of one.

Prusik, Clove Hitch, Italian hitch, overhand, Double overhand Figure Eight, Water loop, Fisherman’s and double fisherman’s loops are some of the other rock climbing knots that you must be aware of and you should even be able to tie them when the need arises. A combination of two or three of them will give you a firmer grip and more security or safety if you like.
